IAF CertSearch – A global database containing all accredited management system certificates

The IAF CertSearch database was created by the IAF (International Accreditation Forum). The purpose of IAF CertSearch is to provide accurate data on accredited (management system) certificates issued by certification bodies accredited by internationally recognised accreditation bodies that are signatories to the IAF MLA.

The database allows you to check whether:

whether their suppliers and partners hold certification,
whether the certificate(s) are valid,
whether the certification body issuing the certificate is accredited,
whether the certifying body is accredited to issue certificates in accordance with the relevant standard.

What do we recommend?

Certification of a regulated SCC/VCA safety management system

Clients and contracting companies are subject to legal obligations regarding the protection of their own employees and those of the other party from hazardous situations. Furthermore, the client is obliged to exclude those contracting companies that are less safe and which are known to fail to comply with regulations concerning the safety and health of workers.

The procedures involved are quite varied; in practice, however, most clients only enter into contracts with companies that they know place importance on quality and health and safety, and which hold the relevant certificates and accreditations to prove it.

The spread of SCC/VCA

The SCC/VCA system certificate (Veiligheids Checklist Aannemers / Safety Certificate for Contractors / Liste de contrôle / Safety Certificate for Contractors) covers a series of procedures whereby a certification body checks, through a „screening” of the company and its workplaces, to determine whether the applicant meets the assessment criteria required for the issuance of the SCC/VCA certificate.

The SCC/VCA certificate confirms that the companies in question have complied with the scheme’s occupational safety, health and environmental requirements in the course of their work.

The regulatory framework, established in the Netherlands in 1994 and subsequently introduced in Germany in 1995, has since expanded – with the accession of Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland – into a European „SCC Platform”, whose main task is to clarify the comparability and mutual recognition of the system.

Large international companies may require SCC/VCA certification in almost any country, regardless of their location.

Personnel certification and SCC/VCA examination

Employees at different companies may face varying risks both at their own workplaces and at external sites (at the client’s premises). It is possible that the work in question must be carried out under constantly changing working conditions, e.g.:

near chemical plant equipment, or within the equipment itself;
at a car factory or a food company;
you must work with electrical equipment;
Working at height, in noisy environments, or in confined spaces also presents different challenges.

Knowledge of basic health and safety requirements is essential for every task. This is why electricians must also have a certain level of knowledge regarding hazardous materials, whilst mechanical engineers must be aware of fire and explosion risks.

In addition to the hazards and risks associated with work, it is also of paramount importance to understand the rights and responsibilities of workers, as well as the tools they can use to influence safety.

In addition to the required SCC/VCA system certification for the organisation in question, SCC/VCA personal certification provides a solution to this challenge.

A certified individual’s certificate confirms that the holder has met the requirements of a specific level as stipulated by the SCC/VCA standards, and is therefore authorised to carry out the tasks associated with that level. Obtaining the SCC/VCA certificate guarantees that an employee with such a qualification will carry out the activities for which they have been certified „safely”, both for themselves and their colleagues.

The certificate complies with the SCC/VCA examination required of operational staff in the Benelux countries and the European Union, as well as with the SCC standard, and is therefore recommended for all industries and employees where the nature of the work requires it.

The approach gained during the training helps participants navigate the SCC/VCA occupational safety regulations. The course focuses on presenting Benelux and international occupational safety regulations and procedures. The course material delivered by our trainers is much more practical and accessible thanks to the face-to-face delivery.

In the event of an EBK offence, suppliers must sit a more stringent (advanced or SOS) SCC/VCA examination. We can also arrange this for you.

SCC/VCA certification and links to other system certifications

The standard is based on the principle of continuous improvement, just like the quality management (ISO 9001, IATF 16949), occupational health and safety management (ISO 45001) and environmental management (ISO 14001 and EMAS) systems, and its approach is therefore closely linked to these.

During SCC/VCA audits, the management system implemented by the organisation to be certified is reviewed over a number of days commensurate with the size of the workforce, based on a checklist, by one or more auditors.
